The Forge is a participatory art commissioning and producing agency that creates high quality, innovative arts projects with, by and for young people and their communities. We create courageous, contemporary and excellent participatory arts projects that inspire young people to become successful, confident individuals capable of reaching their full potential.

We believe that engagement in art of the highest quality enriches lives, fosters personal resilience and acceptance of the differences in others, bringing people and communities together. Our work encompasses exhibitions, concerts, performances, discussion events, films, public art works and publications.

Our programme is developed through close relationships with artists and responds to community, place, context or theme. It provides opportunity for reflection, discovery and enjoyment. We work with a range of partners including schools, teachers, universities, museums, galleries, health care professionals and cultural providers to improve the lives of children, young people and their families, particularly those facing significant challenges and disadvantages.

We are based in Stanley, County Durham and much of our pioneering participatory work takes place in and around the former colliery villages of the area. Our increasing national and international profile in turn enriches our work within this region.
